Last week saw EURFC run a series of online polls to determine our All-Time BUCS Super Rugby XV, featuring those players who have represented the 1st team in the BUCS Super Rugby competition since its inception ahead of the 2016/17 season.

After a week of voting, which saw a massive 4769 votes across all 15 polls, the team was finally selected and revealed on social media. Congratulations to all those who made the side. With 55 players to choose from on the initial shortlists, there was certainly some tough competition throughout.

The front row, as voted by you, comprises of former Exeter Chiefs and now Wasps prop forward Jack Owlett, alongside hooker George Gosling, now of Taunton Titans and Elliot Roofe.

In the second-row, Hartpury and Gloucester’s Simon Linsell was selected alongside Exeter Chiefs and now 7-time capped Scotland player Sam Skinner.

The backrow saw some equally tough competition, with England U20 international Richard Capstick at blindside flanker, Jack Capon at openside and 2016/17 BUCS Super Rugby Player of the Season winner Tom Lawday, now of Harlequins, taking his spot at 8.

At halfback, Aaron Bagwell secured the 9 jersey, whilst the vote for flyhalf saw all 3 shortlisted players separated by just 18 votes, Sam Morley edging out Ted Landray and Harry Bazalgette for the shirt.

In the centres, Joe Elderkin took the spot at inside centre, whilst the dependable Kieran Kelly edged out Tom Holdsworth by a narrow margin to secure the 13 shirt.

The back three saw a combination of pace and agility in abundance as Dom Thorne and Luke Mehson took their places on their respective wings, with Sal M’Boge securing the fullback jersey to complete the side.

The XV between them have a combined 356 appearances, 569 points and 86 tries in BUCS Super Rugby Matches, with these stats and the calibre of players who were unfortunate to miss out on being selected only serving to highlight the strength and success EURFC as a club has been fortunate to enjoy over the years.
