“The boys really deserved it. The way we all worked during the week; you could see the hard work paid off. It means so much to us and you could see that when we were running over to the fans who came to watch us.”

One of the standouts of the Exeter performance was the accuracy of their kicking game, with John crediting the kick chase from his side.

“The pitch is pretty small, so it really plays into your hands if you have a good kicking game. With how hard we work on our kick chase, it really pays off when you have everyone chasing, even if it’s a poor kick. As long as the chase is good, it will pay off and it did in the game.”

Whilst John was awarded the Man of the Match awarded, there were several other standout performances, with fly half Josh Barton sealing the victory with a moment of sheer magic, as he collected his own chip through to glide over.

“Josh with that chip was something else. He did the same last week, and he was brilliant again,” smiled John. “Those forwards as well really worked hard to stay in the game. Everyone deserves the credit; it was a proper team performance.”

Despite a slow start to the season, EURFC will now head back to the final, where they will take on rivals Loughborough as they look to retain their crown.

With both the men’s and women’s teams reaching the final, John praised the support and expected them to travel to North London in their droves.

“You can’t put anything on that. All credit to the boys, but the fans as well were brilliant, and we know that they will follow us to StoneX. It’s about the club as a whole and we can’t wait to get to the final now.”
