Meet the three captain's that will lead the University of Exeter Women's Rugby Club's squads this season

With the new season almost underway for all our teams it’s time to introduce the Captains who will be leading our 3 squads this year.

Here at the University of Exeter Women’s Rugby Club we have three different squads with a variety of opportunities to play in different competitions. We have two BUCS squads with our first XV playing in the BUCS Women's National League; we also have our Exeter Athletic team who play in Women's NC 1 South West.

Naomi Brennan Women’s 1’s XV Captain (Left of photo):

This year’s captain for our BUCS National league campaign is the hard working centre Naomi Brennan. Brennan was voted BUCS WNL Fans Player of the Season last year and with good reason; she played in every game in the WNL last year and is dominant presence across the pitch getting through a mountain of work and deadly in attack. Brennan came to university with a breadth of experience and recently was even contracted by Exeter Chiefs Women. She will be a great leader this year as the first XV captain and will hope to lead us to even more success.

Anna Bradley-Shankar Exeter University Women 2’s Captain (Right of photo):

This year’s women’s 2’s captain embodies everything it means to be a player here at Exeter. Bradley-Shankar had never played rugby before coming to university, however is now part of the high performance programme. The backrower brings energy and enthusiasm to everything she does and even acts as a mini coach on the pitch, supporting many of our new players that have little playing experience sharing the lessons she has learnt herself on her journey.

Charlie Budge Exeter Athletic Captain (Middle of photo):

Exeter Athletic this year will be led by a player suited to the role better then anyone. Budge has previously studied at Exeter University and was part of the side that won BUCS Gold vs Durham. She has also previously been contracted by Exeter Chiefs Women and represented the Club at Premiership level. The hooker leads from the front and will be sure to provide the side with plenty of experience and understanding.

Overall, this future looks incredibly bright for all three of our squads who have all been putting in plenty of hard work ahead of an incredibly exciting season and it’s clear their Captain’s will embody that.
