Backrow Olly White named to captain our BUCS Super Rugby side for the 2021/22 season.

EURFC are delighted to confirm Olly White as our BUCS Super Rugby captain for the 2021/22 campaign.

Backrow forward White made 12 BSR appearances for the club in 2018/19, scoring 5 tries, but now as captain, his aim is for the team to come together as one collective unit.

“I don’t think we’re a team with any individual standouts. We want to be one team together,” White explained.

Wednesday’s match against Swansea will mark the first time in 574 days that EURFC have been able to play a BUCS Super Rugby match, with White admitting that the entire group “can’t wait to get out [on the field.]”

“Everyone here can’t wait. It’s been a long time and very frustrating for a lot of boys. We thought we may get back last season, but it didn’t happen. We can’t wait to get out there really.”

Reflecting on being asked to captain the side for the coming season, White’s overall feeling was that of pride. With a squad that blends experience with freshness at BUCS Super Rugby level, White is hoping that collectively, the side hit their straps early doors.

“I’m incredibly proud and looking forward to leading the boys out. Hopefully we can put together some good results. There’s a mix of older boys that have played BUCS Super Rugby before and some new boys coming in but we’re one squad and there’s no individual in that squad.”

Wednesday’s opening round match against Swansea will be White’s first visit to the St. Helen’s Ground having not played there in the 55-31 victory back in March 2020. Despite being under no illusions of the tough start for his side, White admitted that he was looking forward to the trip.

“I’ve never played at Swansea before. I’m sure they will be a tough opposition, but I can’t wait to be on the bus home, hopefully with a win.”
