BUCS Super Rugby is back!! After the Christmas break the greatest league in the land returns and what better fixture to kick it off the Exeter vs Cardiff Met on the rubber crumb.
Last time out Exeter put out a comprehensive display against the old foe Loughborough as they amassed a significant victory on the rubber crumb in a brilliant attacking display.
Exeter currently sit third in the BUCS Super Rugby table with this week’s opponents Cardiff Met just behind.
Scrum-half Niall Armstrong reflected on how tight the table is at the moment and what a win against Cardiff Met on Wednesday would mean: “5 points against Met would be massive. Momentum in this league is going to be key, it’s something we really built up before Christmas and we really just need to carry that into Wednesday and start from the go”
Looking ahead to the match itself Armstrong reflected on the history against Cardiff Met: “Met Exeter is always a huge game. There’s been that rivalry over the past few years… A result and Cyncoed doesn’t come easy the key from that day was we stayed in our bubble and stuck to our process’ and I think it’s going to be similar again.”
Head Coach Rich Hodges has made wholesale changes to the 23 man squad in comparison with the last one that defeated Loughborough just before Christmas with a potential 6 BUCS Super Rugby debuts.
In the forwards only Jared Williams remains at starting loosehead with Harvey Dunn coming in at hooker and Archie Rolls at tight head. In the back row after sustaining an injury Sam Higginson is out and is replaced by Ronan Kelly on his BUCS Super Rugby debut.
In the backs there’s another two changes. After an injury to Chester Ribbons Max Courtis moves to inside centre and Archie Hill starts at thirteen. Ben Hammersley moves to fullback and Benjy Joseland starts on the right wing.
On the bench there’s potential for five BSR debuts. Hooker Ellis Baldry joins props Chris Freeman and Archie Rolls. The other forward replacements are both potential BSR debutants in Josh Cunningham and Josh Thorne.
As for back replacements only Sam Walker has played in BSR before with Orson James coming in at scrum half replacement and Hugo Hughes hot off the back of two tries at the weekend against Clifton comes in.
