It was back to winning ways in Nat 2 West for the boys in green and white, and they will be looking to back that up this Saturday on a trip to Redruth.
Last week saw a massive matchup between us and Loughborough, in another chapter of our famous rivalry. With scores close at halftime, a big effort was needed in the second half to get Exeter Uni over the line. Scores from Ronan Kelly and Toby Ferguson guaranteed the victory late on.
After suffering 2 defeats on the spin, the boys responded in the biggest game, and they will look to keep that good from going as we head to Redruth.
TOMORROW'S OPPONENTS
Founded in 1875 by alumni of Clifton and Marlborough College, the club grew quickly and were soon one of the most successful in Cornwall. This is backed by their attendances, recording an average crowd of 9000 per game last season. With the crowds also came success, winning multiple Cornwall Cups, before winning the South-West 1 title in the inaugural year of the league system.
Soon after they achieved promotion to Nat 3 and then Nat 2, winning in a playoff in 2005. The 3rd tier was the peak for the club, with their highest finishing position being 4th in 2007. This started a steady decline for the club as they soon got relegated to Nat 2, where they have remained since 2011.
A mid-table finish last season was in stark contrast to the season before where they narrowly missed out on promotion. And with this season so far following the trend of last, Redruth seem to be extending their stay in the 4th tier for another season. They started slowly, achieving 1 win from 4, before turning their fortunes around recently finding themselves in 7th place on the table.
TEAM NEWS
Not many changes for Gareth Elliot this week as the return to winning ways has bread new life into the side. The only change in the pack sees Archie Rolls come into the front row with Archie Alexander moving across to loosehead.
There’s also only one change in the backs, with Jack Park coming in at fullback to replace Ellerby.
On the bench, there is a potential debut for Keita Ando, who has previously represented Scotland U18s and in the Exeter Chiefs academy.
