On a very windy day at Topsham the Fresh 1’s team hosted a hungry Hartpury 2’s side in what promised to be a tasty encounter
It didn’t start well for EURFC as Hartpury went into the lead early after an impressive offload in the carry allowing the player to go right under the posts.
It didn’t take long for the boys to reply though after a period of sustained pressure in the Hartpury 22’ fullback Toby Ferguson went over for his first of the game.
Hartpury weren’t backing down however in this game of back and forth and whilst the conversion was missed, they extended their lead.
However, the drama didn’t stop as right on the cusp of halftime a yellow card for the Hartpury hooker meant a penalty try to Exeter and they went in at the break just 5 points behind.
It was Hartpury however who had the strong start to the second half scoring off a pick and go extending their lead.
But in this game, nothing was ever truly over as another great try from Ferguson closed the gap.
In quick succession Hartpury suffered another yellow card but just shortly after so did EURFC and as a result also conceded a penalty try.
However, the boys weren’t backing down and after a long period of pick and go drives with some massive carries Exeter looked sure to clear but Hartpury looked to have cleared their lines with the kick when Joe Baker ram it in from the backfield to score an excellent try under the posts.
It wasn’t to be however for Exeter as the full-time whistle blew shortly after and in a tough game, they came just 5 points short. They look to build into next week as they go away to Brunel.
